Mád have been cherishing the traditions of vinery for centuries, and protecting its special architectural heritage and local traditions.
The town is one of the gems of Tokaj Wine Region with outstanding aptitude, just like Priorat in Catalonia, Pomerol in Bordeaux, Bolgheri in Tuscany, or Napa in California. That is why Mád stands out in this wine region with its unique tourist and gastronomic attractions.
The locally operating Association for the Protection of Origin wards the natural beauties of the village and surrounding area. Moreover, it works to establish the wine of Mád as an independent concept and its market share:
- Mád has its own wine bottle. With this, it joined to the world greatest wine regions, such as Bordeaux, Rhine, Burgundy and Champaigne.
- The Mád Wine Winery also produces so-called "village-level wines" by using grapes purchased from small producers in Mád. These wines, the "Mád Furmint", "Mád Hárslevelű" and "Mád Késői szüret", always meet high quality standards.
- The first bottled wine was Mád Furmint, and it was also selected to the top 50 wines of 2013 by the high-quality English wine magazine, The Wine Merchant.
Thanks to this and similar successes, the village, famous for its wine and cellar culture, is already known in many parts of the world. Mád is getting closer and closer to become a modern gastronomic and tourist center on an international scale, building on the region's traditional values.
