Mád has maintained its wine traditions and has proudly preserved its unique architectural legacy and local traditions for several centuries.

The town is one of the pearls of the Tokaj wine region – such as Priorat in Catalonia, Pomerol in Bordeaux, Bolgheri in Tuscany or Napa in California, an outstanding wine region with fantastic aptness: this is how Mád stands out in this wine region with its unique tourism and gastronomic services.

The “Mádi Kör Eredetvédelmi Egyesület” is a local organization protecting the town’s natural values and working for establishing “Mád Wine” as an independent notion and helping its market position:

  • Mád has its own bottle now – in this regard it also joined the world’s greatest wine regions such as Bordeaux, Rhine or Champagne.
  • The so-called “village-level” wines are also made here from the grapes purchased from local small producers: these are the always high-quality Mád Furmint, Mád Hárslevelű and the Mád Late Harvest.
  • The first bottled wine was the Mád Furmint which was selected to be among the best 50 wines of 2013 by the British wine magazine, The Wine Merchant.

Thanks to all the success Mád is getting a worldwide reputation as a town famous for its wine-making traditions. This way Mád is getting closer and closer to its goal which is to become a tradition-based and yet modern gastronomic and tourism center in the international playfield.
